USDA CERTIFIED ORGANIC
We source all of our ingredients from USDA-certified organic sources. This means that all of our fresh produce and other ingredients come from farms that follow strict USDA rules and regulations for limiting the harmful pesticides and genetically modified organisms that usually go into non-organic ingredients.
USDA certification starts at the source. Farmers who make over $5,000 a year and claim to be organic must go through the USDA certification process. In order to get certified, farms must be inspected and go through the rigorous process of proving their produce and farming methods are organic. An inspection may include:
- Checking out neighboring land
- Inspecting power lines and make sure they are not sprayed for weeds
- Inspecting windbreaks
- Monitoring erosion prevention
- Taking note of contour planting
- Inspecting irrigation sources
- Looking closely at the farmer’s barn, shop, wash station, cooler, field equipment, field house, lumber, seeds, and more.
